Technical Difficulties
Sorry, folks! Hopefully strips will return next week.
Regime Change
I'm afraid I'm got some good news and some bad news. We'll start with the bad news first: alas, Sue is unable to continue as the primary artist for NeverNever. She asked me to pass along this message:
Dear Readers,
I'm sorry to say that this message is to let you all know that I must retire from NeverNever effective just about immediately. Life situations being what they are, I can no longer dedicate the time to it. Like the decision to wind down Doemain as a strip, this is not a decision I wanted to have to make. I really enjoy working with The Gneech and drawing pookas, faeries, unicorns, and even the more everyday people of the strip. Maybe I can come back to it someday, who knows? But until that day, whether it comes or not, I will really miss it all.
Thank you for being such wonderful fans. I know Syke will adore you all as much as I do! Take care, and the luck of the pookas be with you all!
Sue
For myself, I am pleased and honored to have had Sue's immense talents working on my silly lil' strip, and very grateful to her for giving NN the year-and-change kickstart it needed to bring it out of hibernation. Best of luck Sue -- and I hope to work with you again as soon as we can arrange it!
Now, the good news: much to my joyful surprise, Tiffany "Syke" Ross of Shivae Studios has agreed to take on the art duties starting later this February! Our current projected start date is Tuesday the 19th -- we expect to have finalized details soon! :) So thank you, Tiffany, and welcome aboard!
Ads'n'Stuff
You may notice new ads floating around the various pages of the site in the upcoming months. These are part of my agreement with Keenspot, and go to pay the bills for the strip, so I hope they won't bug ya too much. Cartoonists need to eat, too! ;)
Richard Wyatt to Take On Colorist Duties
You may have noticed Richard Wyatt's name on several of the strips the past few weeks. Some time ago, Hikaru came to the conclusion that his schedule didn't allow him to do the color for both strips at the quality he would prefer, so after Richard's stint as the guest colorist on Suburban Jungle, I asked him to give NN a try. He's been doing such a good job that Sue and I have invited him to stay on permanently, and he's agreed, so welcome aboard (officially) Richard! And big thanks to Hikaru for all the great work to date!
If you'd like to see more of Richard's work, check out his own comic strip, Dansk Folly -- and tell 'em The Gneech sent ya!
Happy Holidays! :D
We're going to take a little break for Christmas around here, so come back January 2nd, 2007 (2007! Good grief!) to find out what's going on with the pookas! Meanwhile, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and generally have a wonderful life until we get back!
September 20th, 2006 -- The Childproofed Unicorn Shirt!
First seen at Dragon*Con, we're proud to present available online Sue's terrific Childproofed Unicorn t-shirt! It's a high-quality silkscreened shirt in a sort of periwinkle blue, dusty rose, or bright green, in sizes S to 2XL ... with art that speaks for itself. Don't let this poor mythical beast's suffering be for naught -- buy a shirt today! ;)
September 7th, 2006 -- Back From Dragon*Con!
I had a great time hanging out with Mammallamadevil, Bill Holbrook, Dave Allen et al., on top of all the usual coolness that is Dragon*Con. I also got to meet and shake hands with Phil Foglio, which was a big kick for me. :)
Welcome New Readers!
If you're new to NN, either from taking my card at Dragon*Con, seeing the various ads floating around, or you just wandered in, welcome aboard! If you'd like to get an idea of what's going on, you can read the About NN Page (which could use a little updating, I realize), or maybe just jump right in from the beginning! We're glad you're here, and hope you love reading it as much as we love bringing it to you!
August 15, 2006: The New NeverNever T-Shirt Premieres at Dragon*Con!
Sue has designed a beautiful t-shirt of NeverNever's mascot, the child-proof unicorn, and we're going to have 'em at Dragon*Con! So if you're there, come by my guest table in the Artist Alley (shared with Bill Holbrook) and pick one up!
For those who can't make it to Dragon*Con, Mammallamadevil will be carrying them on the Merchandise Maven site after the con. Meanwhile, she's still carrying the Black Knight "What do you want from me? I'm EVIL!" design in t-shirts and buttons!
July 11, 2006: The Schedule!
I've been fielding this question a lot, so I'll post the answer here:
Q: Hey, Gneech, what's the new schedule for NN, anyway?
A: Tuesdays and Thursdays! Enjoy!
July 4, 2006: And Off We Go!
Welcome back, everyone who's returning, and well met, new faces! On behalf of Sue, Hikaru, and myself, welcome to what we hope will be a grand, shining new era for NeverNever! (BTW, if you want to take another look at Sue's gorgeous relaunch poster, you can click on the thumbnail for it. Enjoy!)
Community: Since Sue and I both have other comics, there are plenty of places you can go to hang out with folks and discuss NeverNever if you'd like! The default NN message board is/was/shall-continue-to-be the gneech.comics forum; there will also be announcements and various bits of silliness at the SJ/gneech.comics LiveJournal Community. Finally, for Doemain readers or just anybody who'd prefer it, there is Sue's Doemain of Our Own Forum on The Nice. I'll be reading all three boards, and I suspect Sue and Hikaru are likely to do the same -- and we love feedback! So please, come, hang out, schmooze, have fun! This is a happy place!
June 15, 2006: We're Back! Again!
Ladies, gentlemen, gnomes, and pookas, please welcome aboard Susan "Sue Deer" Rankin, creator of A Doemain of Our Own and the new artist for NeverNever! We'll also be continuing Higgins' tradition of full-color strips with the services of Keith "Hikaru" Dickinson, who so ably assists me with color on The Suburban Jungle. I, the Gneech, your humble host, will be continuing my duties as writer, website dude, and general Doer-Of-Things.
If you want to get back up to speed, you can review the story from day one by checking out the archives! Or if you'd rather have it in book form, you can pick up a copy of Childproof the Unicorns from Plan 9 Publishing! You can also discuss your favorite NeverNever moments in the gneech.comics forum! If you'd like to read more comics by The Gneech, check out Suburban Jungle! If you'd like to see more of Sue's art, check out A Doemain of Our Own!
